Fox News Caught in Another Lie

Have they no shame?

Last week, Jon Stewart and The Daily Show caught Fox News' Sean Hannity running old footage of September Tea Party crowds in an attempt to make Michele Bachmann's smaller November Tea Party shindig appear to be more well-attended than it was. Is Fox up to the same tricks today? Faiz Shakir at ThinkProgress thinks so, and he pulls a segment that seems to tout the crowds that greeted Sarah Palin on the stump during the 2008 campaign as throngs that are gathering to purchase Sarah Palin's book, Going Rogue.

In the clip below, watch as Fox anchor Gregg Jarrett describes "pictures just coming into us" as "huge crowds" that have amassed while Palin is "promoting her new book." The pictures that are supposedly "just coming in" are actually year-old video from the presidential campaign:

Walking with jaguars: The Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi animal rescue centre

In many ways Jaguars are the most complete of all cats. It's kinda sad that their numbers are shrinking in the wild over time.

Giant Lungless "Worm" Found Living on Land

A new amphibian species can survive on land with no nostrils, lungs, or legs, say researchers who discovered the bizarre beast.

The creature, found in Guyana, is part of the wormlike group of amphibians known as caecilians. Only one other caecilian species is known to live without lungs.

In general, the presence of lungs is among the key characteristics that make amphibians different from fish.

Until recently, scientists thought salamanders were the only amphibians that lack lungs. But in 1995 researchers found the first known lungless caecilian, and in 2008 another team reported a tiny, land-dwelling, lungless frog.

The new species is even more of a surprise, because the animal—named Caecilita iwokramae—is strikingly different from the other known lungless caecilian, the study authors note.

Caecilita lives on land and is just 4.4 inches (11 centimeters) long, while its lungless relative is fully aquatic and reaches 27.5 inches (70 centimeters) in length.

On the shoreline (36 images)

clipped from www.boston.com
We humans are drawn to the shore, with some 40% of the world's population living within 100 kilometers of a coast. Coastal areas have made recent news with the arrival of several storms, concerns about rising sea levels and other environmental and conservation efforts. Collected here are a handful of photographs from around the world of people and animals at the shoreline, playing, working, struggling or relaxing on the border between land and sea. 10 Weirdest Animal Friendships

Friends are the one thing you can rely on when you need a shoulder to cry on or someone to just listen to you rant. People have friends, so why can’t animals. Dogs have always been known as man’s best friend, so why can’t animals have best friends of their own. Whether it is among their own species, or across a different spectrum of species, animals need a best friend too.

The sky above Galloway Forest Park Scotland

Galloway Forest Park

It's in the stars: This image of the night sky above Galloway Forest Park appears circular as it was created with a special 'fisheye' lens. The park has been voted one of the best places for stargazing in the world

The award, presented by the
International Dark Sky Association (IDA), recognises the quality of the
night sky in the area, where light pollution is minimal.

The pitch-black sky makes it easy to see distant galaxies such as the Milky Way and Andromeda.
Until now, there have been only three other Dark Sky Parks in the world - the Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah, the Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania and the Geauga Park in Ohio.
The IDA said the new addition was a 'fantastic asset' for the network of such parks.
'Its location is ideally situated for access from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast and northern England, meaning that many people, including children, may have access to a quality night sky, both now and in generations to come.

Lion opens family's car door with his teeth

Lion opens family's car door with his teeth

The lion may have appeared wild, but it had clearly learnt one or two things
about cars after years of watching curious visitors drive past.

As the white Toyota came to a halt in the Lion Safari Park in Johannesburg, it
slowly padded over while the family inside watched in excitement, unaware of
what was about to happen.

Thier glee turned to horror as the 300lb lion firmly took the rear door handle
with his teeth and pulled it open in one deft movement.

For several seconds the car remained still while the occupants digested the
shock of what had happened before finally hitting the accelerator and
driving off.

As they fled, the lion followed in pursuit until it reached the gates of the
enclosure. There it was finally held back by a warden who hurled stones to
shoo it back.

Plea For The Birds

This is a longer video about Bett, the rescued Macaw, her friend Geronimo and their person. She makes the point that these beautiful birds are an incredible amount of work and expense, their need for attention is huge and that they will live longer than both you and your child. In other words, they require a major commitment and even with the willingness to do so, they are still better off wild and free.

I DO NOT

This is a perfect example of how slow and difficult social change is.

But these little girls have stood up to be counted as worthy to claim their childhood and the right to choose their own partner and their own life.

I can't imagine the type of courage that must take.

Breaking a trend

Her fate was all but sealed, the wedding bells ringing in her relatives' heads. Then the bride-to-be, a little girl playing in the dirt in this impoverished village, plucked up her courage and said, "I do not."

The British Raj tried to stamp it out. Mohandas Gandhi, himself a child groom, campaigned against it. The United Nations has condemned it. And in 2006, the Indian government explicitly banned it.

But child marriage remains pervasive in India, accounting for one-third of such unions worldwide and underscoring the contradictions and complexities of a society that produces cutting-edge engineers even as it clings to feudal traditions.

"These girls are very brave," said Sarita Singh, secretary of the Rajasthan state Department of Child and Women Development. "There are enormous social forces working against them."
