Through conversations with those performers, producers, managers and family members, we share fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpses into the lives of these creative, talented people. The book "Where Have All the Pop Stars Gone (Volume 1)," is a look at the past, current (and maybe future) lives and careers of some of the people that have entertained millions of people around the world. The artists featured in this volume include: The Association, Herman's Hermits, The Kingston Trio, Chris Montez, The Spiral Starecase, Bobby Vee and The Zombies. The book is laid out with a section for each group or artist, which presents a look at that group or artist. Following the "main" part of the section there is/are an "Epilogue(s)" about each member of the group, or individual artist. The entire book contains one on one authorized interviews/accounts of each of the artists involved. Any book of this type that I have seen seems to be based on rumor and/or innuendo gleaned from "Fan Magazines or second hand accounts. This book is loaded with interesting facts and personal recollections from the artists themselves.
I usually have about five books going at one time, from Politics to Science Fiction, (hmmm they could be one and the same). It's rare that just one book grabs my total interest, and the others lay idle, while I concentrate on completing that ONE book. This book is one of those, I just couldn't put it down, and I'll probably re-read it because it contains so many fascinating stories and anecdotes.
It is well worth the read, as it's entertaining and enlightening. As a former Radio DJ, this really brought back a lot of GREAT memories, as a radio listener it will do the same for you.

Where Have All The Pop Stars Gone? edition by Marti Childs Marti Childs Jeff March Arts Photography eBooks Reviews
Before "American Idol" and shows like it, "Pop Stars" give a glimpse of how talented people made their way to the top of the charts. You find out, also, that rock stars are people too, with families, homes, bills, and sometimes talents in other fields, that sustain them through the times between or after the hits keep coming.
Interviews with the artists, their managers, and family members are personal and sometimes very revealing. The authors have an easy way of engaging each of their subjects, so by the time you finish each artist's segments, you feel like you've known the people you are reading about.
Anyone with an interest in pop music and it's creators will enjoy breezing through this fun and informative book. I can't wait for Volume Two!
As I'm a huge fan of the great tunes of the 1950s, '60s and '70s, Where Have All The Pop Stars Gone? is a book that's right up my musical alley. It's a wealth of information, presented in an easy-to-read format and laid out almost like a web site on paper (there are even relevant URLs included at decent intervals - an extremely helpful resource); which is to say, it's organized and easy to navigate through. This edition of the book, happily subtitled Volume 1 indicating that more is forthcoming, focuses on The Association, Herman's Hermits, The Kingston Trio, Chris Montez, The Spiral Starecase (yes, that's the correct spelling of the group's name!), Bobby Vee, and The Zombies. Each section begins with a narrative about the history of the group or the evolution of the solo singers' careers, as applicable, up to and including present activities; the narratives are then followed by epliogues which detail the personal lives of the various group members and solo artists. The book is extremely well researched and sprinkled throughout with a generous number of direct quotes from the principals themselves and, especially in the case of those no longer with us, their family members and associates. In several cases, these quotes were compiled over a period of years, which brings an excellent sense of movement and chronological flow to the piece. Authors Marti Smiley Childs and Jeff March brilliantly left their own egos out of the equation, resulting in an objective, unbiased and accurate history of these pop legends. 'Where Have All the Pop Stars Gone' can either be read from start to finish, like a novel, or in no particular order beginning with one's favorite act if desired. It can then be referred back to over and over, like an encyclopedia - and with no Internet connection needed! Highly recommended for music fans like me.
The author hardly mentions the two most important Moody Blues, Justin Hayward and John Lodge. They still are active preformers.
I love the 60's music and loved reading about the stars of that era. We are fans of Herman's Hermits and Bobby Vee so really enjoyed the behind the scenes and where they are now. Looking forward to the next book!!
This book was a great way to spend a rainy evening while playing all my old vinyl rock records. Enjoy!
Lots of new (to me) details on musicians.
If you want more than the usual publicity fluff regarding your favorite vintage band, this is the book for you. Even if you think you are an expert on the subject of anything pertaining to The Association, The Zombies, or The Kingston Trio, to name a few, you are in for a lot of surprises. The book has never-before published photos and facts about these bands and others. Highly informative and highly entertaining. Definitely recommended!
